    Occupation Wellness (Why is it important?)

    Occupation wellness is the dimensions that recognize your personal satisfaction and enrichment through work.  A person who is doing is a person is doing exactly what they want to do in life and is comfortable and content with their personal and financial situation and future plans has a very healthy state of occupational wellness.

    It is the ability to achieve a balance between work and leisure in a way that promotes health, a sense of personal satisfaction and is (for most people) financially rewarding. Our attitude and ability to effectively deal with work, school, and career goals greatly affect wellness, performance, interactions with others and overall success.

    ENHANCING OCCUPATIONAL WELLNESS AT THE WORKPLACE

    For employer, there are many ways that you can support work-life balance in your workplace even with a limited budget.  Start by finding out from your employees what wellness program options would support their work-life balance. Then back up your wellness program with policies, encourage employees to make use of your workplace wellness options and affirm that tapping into these options will not negatively affect their employment with you.

    As employee, you can also enhance occupational wellness at workplace, with the existence policies in your management or creating your own list in making your workplace an enjoying place to work at. Here are few strategies you can do to enhance occupational wellness at the workplace;

    Flexible Work Arrangements

    Flexible work arrangement benefited both employee and the organization.  It gives their staff to choose on which time suits their staff, for example, a time option 7.30a to 4.30pm or 8.30am to 5.30pm.  As employee, you can choose which time suits your well.  Some organizations, such as non-profit organizations let their staff works from home and only have discussion twice a month.

    Learn and Grow

    Most organizations offer on-site seminars and workshops on topics such as stress, healthy living, communication styles, etc. and encourage their employees to further studies.  Take this opportunity to learn and grow.  The more you learn the more valuable you are to the organization and more opportunity open for you.

    Be Friendly and Understanding

    You are spending 8 hours a day, exactly 40 hours in a week.  A good relationship with colleague and management will helps you enjoy your days at work without being stressful.  Being friendly and understand each individual at your workplace helps in performing your work better, and furthermore your colleagues are your second family.  You can share problem that is related to your work and share ideas on what can produce productivity at work.  Talking about other colleague or management should be avoided, as this can gives a negative impact for you and your performance.  Don’t compare yourself with other staff but learn to be a good teamwork.

    Take a Break (How about hiking?)

    Anyone can easily get stress with work but you should learn to take things easy.  If you feel stress, take a break.  It is advisable to take a break from work.

    Start with a walk in the park with your family. You can try other activity such as cycling, hiking or mountain climbing. These activities helps you to get in touch with nature, fresh air, awesome views, surrounded by the sounds and smells of nature. According to medical studies, hiking is good for body and mind.

    According to Harvard Medical School,  benefit of hiking can increase your mood and healthy heart. Hiking can benefit brisk walking, hiking is a good way to improve your cardiovascular fitness, particularly if your route includes some hills, which will force your heart to work harder. Taking a hike on the slightly uneven surface of a trail also provides a natural way to engage the core muscles in your torso and to hone your balance skills. 

    You can start hiking somewhere nearby to you or can get some experts to helps you to get into the adventure tour. You can bring your family cycling, hiking and other activities. Awesome quality time with your family and great way to escape from the office work.

    There is abundance of challenges and obstacles in trying to achieve and maintain a healthy state of occupational and other dimensions of wellness. It can be hard to feel comfortable and secure in a workplace that is impacted by the state of this difficult economy.  There will always challenges in the workplace, disagreement with customers, colleagues and bosses but you need to learn to stay focus.

    Staying focused on achieving a proper balance with your career, health, relationship, family and personal satisfaction as proper balance will help you produce and project your best performance.  Reprogram your mind and your body to bring out the best in you. Don’t be afraid to change and make small improvements in all areas of your life.

    The Beautiful Music Fountain

    I remember coming to Perdana Park when my children were younger. A great recreational leisure area, for family activities and  nice spot to meet friends as there are a few eateries there.

    We visited the place again and old memories started playing in my mind, when my kids were younger playing at the playground and at one time we thought we lost them with their cousins as they wandered around the area…those were the days.

    Nice timing to go there, as everyone is on hari raya holiday mood. This place will usually be full of people.

    The water fountain comes alive from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, from Monday to Thursday and all you have to do is sit, relax and enjoy yourself with the beautiful synchronized fountain water accompanying music and lights, creating a dazzling visual display.  It just look spectacular as it it is dancing.

    If you want to make memory, this will be the place. Enjoy!

    What Nature Taught Me

    There are many things we experience even within a year. I learnt few valuable lesson..throughout the years. As we were taught to be kind, love and caring towards one another, there are times we need to becareful for not being too kind. I believe I have been too nice sometimes and when I show Im upset or angry, seems people makes a fuss about it. The thing is I am human and I dont really have a reputation to keep.

    #Dont get too involved

    Sometimes we feel the need to help friends and letting ourselves to be ‘the middleman’  in any project.  If the proposal not done by you..don’t be involved! especially when two parties are you friends..let them deal and settle. Stay out of the way. If they kill each another maybe you may call as a witness but at least you survive.

    #Dont be too concerned

    You may see or observe something that may help your friend in his/her business. You may want to tell him/her on what you think but before you want to say anything, may I suggest ‘not to say anything’ at all..unless this friend of yours ask for suggestion or opinion. Do not show your concern because it does not sound as a concern to your friend but more as a ‘kepoh’ or trying to criticize him or her.

    #Dont be too friendly

    Not many people understand you. Different people act differently on friendship. To me having male or female friends are equally important because I look for quality of a person.

    #The judgemental

    People may judge us in different way, read  and perceive on how we act upon them. The problem is we tend to judge and perceive people wrong most of the time. We may try to be nice but looks like we wanted something from them.

    #Start being nice to yourself

    With all these happening, I feel its time to just stop being too nice to other people and start to be nice to myself. I need to forgive myself, letting my anger free and be thankful for the experiences i gone through.

    #Keep it simple

    Life demands so many things from us and we somehow want to be part of society so we act or want to be like them. We buy things that are not necessary and forgotten the reason to live.

    #Time to reflect

    The only way to do this is to go far out from the city.  I love to get back to my childhood memory because its where my dream startef, there where I find my joy and peace. My inner child seems to be alive when I smell the sea, trees, watching the birds fly..it feels as it was just like yesterday when I was in my childhood days. As if my grandparents were with me protecting me when I fell and hurt my hand. Its a beautiful childhood memory.

    Get in touch with the nature, be bored doing nothing and just listen the surroundings. The nature gives great advice if you listen.

    #The nature taught me

    When I stop my mind from wandering and feel the moment. As I listen to the sound of waves that tell me to be brave as the feel of breeze comforts me.  The sun shine above me touches my skin as it given me permission to cry and let go of my emotions. And at night I feel like the moon gives me blessing to do what my heart desire. Its beautiful to be in the moment.

    Its just a great way to start another year, another chapter of our story and more lesson to learn.
